Matters like: where do you get reed?, where do you find straw?, how do you locate a thatcher to work in Ireland?, what's a fair price to pay? how do you date your Irish thatch cottage?, what about insurance? who is entitled to Irish government grants, for what can you get a grant for and for where? There are so many question and matters of interest for people who live in, and own thatch houses in Ireland to discuss and share with each other. And my hope is that between us, we can develop a discussion forum here.

According to a recent survey by the Irish Heritage Council there are only approx 1.500 traditional thatch houses still surviving in Ireland today. So, be proud of your thatch house, because what you own is a very valuable - and fast disappearing - part of Ireland's heritage.
